What Are The Best Antivirus Products For Consumers?
The assessment of the two main independent antivirus testing houses have been completed for the best 2017 antivirus products, the results are now in: on top of the test we have Norton by Symantec ( Get coupons here and save $30) , and the other is Avira. On Tuesday, the best anti-malware product for 2017 was released by AV-Comparatives, after last week when AV-Test had announced its choice. However, the usual dash of controversy was present as once again Symantec decline to submit their Norton product for testing to AV-Comparatives.
The winners were otherwise clear: Norton Security 2017 was anointed by AV-Test as providing the best protection out of all the consumer malware products which during 2017 were tested. Avira Antivirus Pro 2017 was named by AV-Comparatives as its best 2017 anti-malware product, barely edging out Kaspersky and Bitdefender.
Although Avira was selected as Product of the Year, the score for Bitdefender and Kaspersky Lab were so high that a new category was created by AV-Comparatives, Outstanding Products 2017, so that the other two could be honored. To put it simply, it is the agency’s belief that the best protection for your PC is provided by all three products. A Top-rated Products award was also assigned by the firm to the products which were are the top or near it in various other categories: ESET, ThreatTrack VIPRE, Emsisoft, and Tencent.
AV-Comparatives, when considering its awards, looked at five various features of protection, actually detecting malware, as well as not flagging software that is legitimate as malware, removing the malware, and the level of impact which protection and removal had on a PC. All the fifth test looked at was how well every product performed in the real world with the use of known malicious URLs, as opposed to a laboratory.
The fact that once again Symantec was excluded from AV-Comparatives´ testing is not unusual. Symantec has since 2012, refused to provide AV-Comparatives with its code. Although a statement by press time was not offered by Symantec to PCWorld, in 2012 the company told its users that a test which evaluated the real-world protection capabilities of Norton was not offered by AV-Comparatives. The company then stated: “Our Philosophy is only to participate in tests which have high meaning and relevance for consumers, we feel we already have the best products to suit families and individuals alike and those which align the most accurately with their real-world need for protection that is comprehensive and machine cleanup from online threats which are evolving.”
AV-Test for their part highlighted the best products in a variety of categories, we posted this overview of Norton here for you to check out. Norton was awarded the crown by AV-Test with its away of Best Protection for consumers for both PC and Mac systems, however, Kaspersky was singled out for its award for Best Performance as well as Best Usability. However, Avira was named the Best Repair Software for PCs that have already been infected.
