About EarthLink
EarthLink is a subsidiary of Windstream and a supplier of internet services. EarthLink, which was established in 1994, provides users with high-speed internet with download rates of up to 75 megabits per second.
Cable connections give rates of up to 75Mbps, satellite connections provide speeds of up to 25Mbps, and DSL connections provide speeds of up to 15Mbps. Rather of offering its own broadband services, EarthLink makes use of a number of partner networks. Availability of EarthLink
EarthLink provides internet service in 36 states, with California, Texas, and New York having the most coverage. EarthLink provides DSL internet to an estimated 174.4 million individuals, making it the biggest home DSL provider in the United States.
EarthLink also provides fiber internet service, branded as HyperLink, in addition to DSL broadband. Its fiber service reaches about 26.5 million people, making it the second-largest fiber broadband provider in the United States by coverage area.
Internet Bundles From Earthlink
EarthLink’s internet services are expensive when compared to other internet service providers’ introductory prices. On the bright side, this means you won’t be subjected to a significant price increase after your one-year contract ends. (Probably just a little price increase.)
However, if you look beyond the silver lining, you’ll see that this stormcloud is made up of a year’s worth of lost savings.
Other providers may increase their rates after your first year, but you can usually persuade them to give you a discount if you sign up for another term. That means you won’t be able to cancel your internet service at any time, but you’ll still save money.
Still, if all of that bureaucracy is making your brain ache, EarthLink is just what you need (with hefty co-pay, lol).
Plans And Pricing From Earthlink
Although EarthLink’s rates are expensive, the ISP does not engage in any gimmicks or marketing.
On the surface, EarthLink seems to provide a good range of download speeds to internet customers in 48 states throughout the United States. Furthermore, some of those plans are fiber-based. Fiber is superior to other internet connection options in terms of speed and reliability.
What’s more perplexing is how EarthLink’s plans, pricing, and download speeds vary depending on your location. That makes determining how much EarthLink will cost you—or if you will be able to receive EarthLink internet at all—difficult.
When we looked for EarthLink internet plans in Jacksonville, Florida, we found two options: a 24 Mbps plan and a 12 Mbps plan. However, a search for EarthLink in Las Vegas, Nevada, revealed plans with speeds of 15, 30, and 40 Mbps.
However, there’s a rationale for these internet plan changes: EarthLink works with other internet providers in several states to service its clients. AT&T, CenturyLink, Frontier, Verizon Fios, and Viasat are among the companies involved. As a result, the availability, pricing, and internet speeds of EarthLink are all dependent on which partner services your town or city.
Choose HyperLink 1,000 Mbps if you’re a true speed demon and reside in an area where Earthlink’s fiber internet service is accessible. However, most people should be OK with the HyperLink 80 Mbps download rates. If that plan isn’t available in your region, any plan that is faster than 50 Mbps should suffice.
What Are The Features Of Earthlink’s Internet Plans?
- All EarthLink internet plans offer the following features in addition to your monthly internet allowance:
- Up to 8 email addresses may be added to an EarthLink account.
- A unique home page.
- EarthLink’s Android or iOS mobile app is available.
What Is The Internet Speed Of Earthlink?
Depending on your region, package, and internet type, Earthlink’s internet plans vary from 3Mbps to 1Gbps.
With a DSL connection, you’ll receive slower speeds but the security of your phone line. EarthLink’s Hyperlink internet connects through DSL and fiber, providing you the best download speeds possible.
Internet Equipment From Earthlink
The renting of an EarthLink modem/router costs $6.95 a month and is not optional. Even though many internet providers allow you to use your own gateway, renting equipment typically costs $10, so EarthLink isn’t offering you a terrible bargain.
DSL and fiber internet, unlike cable internet, do not use standardised modem technology. DSL networks, in particular, are a mash-up of technologies (we go over this in detail in our CenturyLink modem article), making it difficult to select the appropriate modem for the task without a lot of technical knowledge.
Keep this expense in mind, but don’t let it bother you too much. In terms of hidden internet costs, it’s not too terrible.
Is Earthlink A Safe Option?
EarthLink internet comes with Kaspersky virus and spam protection, but you’ll have to pay extra for Earthlink Secure, the company’s enhanced security option.
- From $7.95 to $24.95 per month, EarthLink Secure provides five distinct levels of security. On EarthLink Secure’s website, under Pricing and Features, you may compare them all.
- If you utilise EarthLink’s email service, be aware of the following: Its email encryption is a choice, not a must. Before sending any further emails, double-check that you’ve chosen secure email settings.
- Also, never use EarthLink email to send HIPAA-protected information since it isn’t secure enough.
