About Viasat Internet

Viasat logo 2017High-speed satellite internet service is provided by Viasat Internet (previously Exede). This kind of internet service, particularly fiber or cable internet, isn’t as fast or dependable as others due to the vast distances that data must travel. Satellite internet, on the other hand, has a significant benefit in terms of availability, especially outside of metropolitan areas. Viasat’s service is available in all 50 states and reaches 98 percent of the population of the United States.

Viasat, which has been in business for more than 30 years, provides internet services to both customers and government organisations. Viasat also offers home phone service and, via a collaboration with DirecTV, television service.

Plans and prices from Viasat

There are four levels of Viasat home internet plans: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Only the first three options will be offered in certain regions, and available speeds and data limits will vary by location. As you would expect, the more glamorous the plan name, the more speed and data it offers.

What Can You Anticipate From Viasat’s Internet Packages?

Expect equipment expenses, installation charges, and contract restrictions regardless of whatever Viasat service or package you select.

The monthly leasing cost for Viasat Wi-Fi equipment is $13, which is approximately typical when compared to other providers. You can’t get rid of the charge by using your own equipment, but for a one-time fee of $299, you may purchase Viasat’s equipment entirely. While it may be difficult to part with $300 up front, the equipment will practically pay for itself after 15 months.

If you’re considering whether to rent or buy your Viasat Wi-Fi equipment, bear in mind that installation fees may add up quickly. The Viasat installation charge is $100, although consumers with acceptable credit may get it for free in certain regions.

Internet Access through Viasat

The greatest part about Viasat satellite internet is that it is available nearly everywhere in the United States. Because the satellite dish will be oriented in that direction, your house must have a good view of the southern sky. Satellite internet may not be available in homes and cabins situated in deep valleys or heavily wooded regions.

In order to obtain a residential Viasat service package, your house must also be stationary. You won’t be able to obtain Viasat residential service if you travel in an RV or cruise the seven seas on a boat. Even if you live in a small house, a prefabricated home, a cabin, or a lighthouse, you should be able to receive service as long as you remain there and don’t dwell in a cave or a deep canyon. According to the FCC, satellite internet is available to over 99 percent of the US population.

What is the speed of Viasat Internet?

Viasat offers plans with download speeds ranging from 12 Mbps to 100 Mbps. Upload rates of 3 Mbps are advertised on all Viasat subscriptions.

Although the Unlimited Platinum 100 plan’s download rates of up to 100 Mbps are fast enough to compete with cable or DSL internet, such speed is only available on the Unlimited Platinum 100 plan. Nine of the 10 Viasat options (all subject to availability in your region) provide download speeds of 12 to 50 Mbps.
